Krispy Kreme to launch in Manukau on Wiri Trust site
The world famous Krispy Kreme is coming to New Zealand and is launching its first New Zealand store in Manukau in a new development owned by the Wiri Licensing Trust. Krispy Kreme was founded in North Carolina in 1937 and is the creator of the iconic of world famous Original Glazed doughnut.
Development of a retail store and manufacturing facility is already underway on the Trust owned site in Ronwood Ave. The facility will not only offer a retail shop and drive-thru but will be the manufacturing base for Krispy Kreme for Auckland and Waikato. Krispy Kreme expects that as many as 150 new jobs will be created in this venture many of the them entry level jobs for local school leavers.

Wiri Licensing Trust chairman Alan Johnson is enthusiastic about the Trust’s partnership with Krispy Kreme and the opportunities it offers for jobs and new retail experiences. ‘We are developing a distinctive good quality building for Krispy Kreme which we believe will offer something new and exciting for people visiting Manukau City Centre’, he says. ‘This building is part of an $8 million development project being undertaken by the Trust which we expect will offer Manukau people wider entertainment and shopping opportunities as well as create entry level jobs’ he adds.
Sydney based Krispy Kreme Chief Executive Andrew McGuigan is similarly excited by the new venture and the company’s entry into New Zealand. ‘The brand is already strong globally and we believe that there is huge opportunity for Krispy Kreme to become a favourite amongst Kiwis’ he says. ‘The Manukau site is ideal for our flagship store and operational facility and we expect it to be a popular destination that all can enjoy’ he says.
The venture is expected to open early 2018.
